The MCA coordinates with HQMC PP&O Division to present the annual Ground Awards Dinner held each year. The purpose of this event is to provide a forum for discussion of issues pertaining to the headquarters element, ground combat element, and the combat service support elements of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF). The dinner gives the entire Ground community a chance to come together for education, networking and most importantly, for camaraderie.
The dinner features a prominent guest speaker who talks about current military issues. Guest speakers at recent Marine Corps Association Ground Dinners have included: Gen Peter Pace, Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff; Gen James L. Jones, Jr., former Commandant of the Marine Corps, later reassigned as U.S. European Command/Supreme Allied Commander, Europe; and LtGen James N. Mattis, Commanding General, Marine Corps Combat Development Command/Deputy Commandant for Combat Development; Gen M. W. Hagee, 33d Commandant of the Marine Corps; Gen James T. Conway, 34th Commandant of the Marine Corps, and Gen Anthony Zinni, USMC (Ret).
A key feature of the annual Ground Awards Dinner is the recognition offered to outstanding Marines. With the generous support of corporate sponsors, MCA recognizes the Division Marine of the Year for each of the 4 Marine Divisions and also awards the Leftwich Trophy for Outstanding Leadership by a Marine Captain serving in company or battery command. Starting in 2008, the Ground Awards Dinner will also include presentation of the Hulbert Award for the Marine Gunner of the Year awarded to the CWO Marine Gunner serving in an infantry Battalion.
